MasterChef Season 2

by Todd Betzold

We find out tomorrow who will win season two of MasterChef, but tonight we have to see what three will compete for that title.

One more team challenge, as the pantry is filled with the best America has to offer and the competitors are in charge of cooking one amazing American dish for MasterChef judges from France, Israel and India.

As the winner of the last Elimination Test, Suzy gets to pick her teammate for this challenge and in hindsight, she gets to pick her opponents. She chooses Christian as her teammate for the Red Team, leaving Jennifer and Adrien to battle it out against them as the Blue Team.

In this challenge, the Blue Team starts out with a clear advantage as they are working well together and pick out a dish right away and start cooking. The Red Team struggles with their dish choice and when they finally decide what to cook, they are behind the Blue Team.

That trend continues throughout the 90 minutes they have to prepare the dish, as the Blue Team seems to be feeding off each other's strengths and weaknesses and the Red Team seems to be trash-talking each other and each doing their own thing.

The Red Team is up first to present their dish, Thanksgiving Dinner with Raspberry Coulis. The judges all seemed to believe that the duck was cooked well, but Joe says that it is disrespectful what they brought to the table for these judges from other countries. Christian agrees, throwing Suzy under the bus for choosing such a crappy dish. Joe then proceeds to go off on Christian and the lack of team fusion from them, which he said showed in the dish.

After that drama, the Blue Team has a chance to present their dish, Prawns with Lobster, Corn and Avocado. The judges had complaints that the prawns were not cleaned before cooking and Joe stated that he can almost see the vision, but he didn't see the execution. Chef Ramsay praises them though for working so well together as a team.

After some discussion by all six judges, which were in favor of both sides, it is announced that the Blue Team wins after a unanimous decision. The heart of Adrien and Jennifer wins out over the technical side of Suzy and Christian.

Suzy and Christian are then put to the Pressure Test, which has the theme of lemon meringue pie this week. They have 90 minutes to create this pie, which they will need to focus on three things for the pie: the crust, filling and meringue. Suzy being the pastry girl is confident with this test and Christian not being a baker is a little apprehensive, but cocky enough to say he will win.

First to present their pie is Suzy, whose pie seems to have very little meringue on top. The judges all pick up on this. Chef Ramsay says it looks a lot more appetizing out of the dish and it needs more meringue, but it tastes delicious. Graham says the same thing, but Joe says that it is a little drippy and the meringue is flavorless.

Christian brings up his pie, which Graham says the crust looks uneven, but the filling is nice. Chef Ramsay is concerned with the texture of the meringue...it is so light and broken. Again, he says it is a delicious pastry, but let down with the meringue. Both had issues with the meringue.

Chef Ramsay states that Christian's looks better than it tastes and Suzy's tastes better than it looks, but which one will go home? Even though she was dubbed the pastry girl, her pie just didn't cut it as they send Suzy home and Christian into the final three.

Find out who the winner of MasterChef is when it airs Tuesday at 8/7c on Fox.
