The Voice Season 3 from The Voice Season 3

by Todd Betzold

It is an exciting night on The Voice, as we get our first look at the Knockout Rounds. This is a new round they added for Season 3 and will feature the singers taking on a song of their choice, but they will be put head-to-head with one other singer from their team and one will survive and one will head home, so let's call it Battle Rounds 2.0.

Team Adam: Joselyn Rivera vs. Kayla Nevarez
Joselyn: "Live On Top" by Beyonce
Kayla: "Shark In The Water" by V V Brown

They are both young pop singers, so he wants to see who can bring more to the Knockout. Joselyn thinks this sing will show her high range and her personality. Adam wants to see Kayla change the sound of the song. Joselyn starts off and she is super strong and has some rasp in her voice and is very comfortable on the stage. Adam stole her from Team Christina, so that could be huge in his decision. Kayla has some good moments in the song, but I wasn't a huge fan during the battle so I go with Joselyn. Adam said it was an ambitious song for Joselyn to choose and he loves the way Kayla carries herself up there, but he picks Joselyn and she is headed to the live shows and Kayla goes home.

Team Adam: Joe Kirkland vs. Bryan Keith
Joe: "Mean" by Taylor Swift
Bryan: "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" by Bryan Adams

It is some pop rock and roll voices and it only wants to focus on one of them for the live shows. This could be interesting to see Joe sing Taylor Swift, but I like the choice. I think Bryan is behind because it is a huge song and Joe might be taking the bigger risk, which Adam likes. Joe starts and I love it and he makes it his own and makes it a rock song and I am impressed. Bryan does good, but he is just there for me and has had no wow moments for me. Adam said Joe killed it and Bryan was not as good as before and it even the scale for him, but he picks Bryan and he is headed to the live shows.

Team Adam: Amanda Brown vs. Michelle Brooks-Thompson
Amanda: "Paris (Ooh La La) by Grace Potter & The Nocturnals
Michelle: "Spotlight" by Jennifer Hudson

This is a battle of the divas and who didn't see this one coming for Team Adam? He wants to see who has more range in the Knockout Round. Amanda is Adam's only steal, so watch out. She loves American rock and Adam loves it, but tells her not to rock it as much. Michelle wants to sing her song like Michelle and not like Jennifer. Amanda absolutely rocks it and is such a great performer. She owns the stage. This is so hard because Michelle is a great singer and hits some amazing notes, but Amanda stole the show in my eyes. Adam said it comes down to who he can be a better coach for and he picks Amanda and she is headed to the live shows.

Team Adam: Loren Allred vs. Nicole Nelson
Loren: "You Know I'm No Good" by Amy Winehouse
Nicole: "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys

This is a battle between the girl who has not been shown much (Loren) and the girl that got a lot of attention (Nicole). Adam wants more emotion from the wedding singer Loren and Nicole to hit certain notes of the song. Why have they not shown more of Loren? She did an amazing job and even got Christina to stand for her. To be honest, Nicole has a great voice and to me, she picked a safe song. I enjoyed Loren more, but Adam will pick Nicole. Adam thinks they both can win it and the thought of letting one of them go kills him. In a shocker, he picks Loren and she is headed to the live shows...I am so happy for her!!!

Team Adam: Melanie Martinez vs. Sam James
Melanie: "Bulletproof" by La Roux
Sam: "Walking In Memphis" by Marc Cohn

This is the last battle for Team Adam in the Knockout Rounds and it is a battle of the opposites. It starts out bad for Melanie in the rehearsal, as he said it was good, but underwhelming. Sam had issues with pronouncing Memphis, so this will be fun to watch. Melanie is so different and unique and this just seemed boring to me. Sam does a great job and sounds good, but I think Melanie can do more in the competition. Adam agrees and he picks Melanie.

Team Adam for the live shows: Jocelyn Rivera, Bryan Keith, Amanda Brown, Loren Allred and Melanie Martinez.

Team Cee Lo: Avery Wilson vs. Cody Belew
Avery: "Yeah 3X" by Chris Brown
Cody: "Jolene" by Dolly Parton

Team Cee Lo starts strong with one of my favorite two on his team. Avery is going to be dancing and singing, but will he be able to do it and not run out of breath? It is a weird choice for Cody, but I love this guy and his personality. The song showed off nothing that Avery can do with his voice and bad choice, but Cody rocked "Jolene" and I want this guy to win it all. Cee Lo doesn't know what to do, but he goes with the obvious choice and picks Cody!!!

Team Cee Lo: Mackenzie Bourg vs. Daniel Rosa
MacKenzie: "Call Me Maybe" by Carley Rae Jepsen
Daniel: "Back To December" by Taylor Swift

MacKenzie takes big chances and this song choice is huge for him. It is the most popular song of the year and he is going to put his twist on it, so I am excited to see this. Another guy singing a Taylor Swift song? MacKenzie took one of the most popular songs out there and made it a new song...I loved it! Daniel sounds so much better than his Battle Round and has more confidence and he has so much emotion in his voice and I love it as well. Cee Lo has to make a decision and it is a matter of mixed emotions for him and he picks MacKenzie.

Team Cee Lo: Terisa Griffin vs. Trevin Hunte
Terisa: "Saving All My Love" by Whitney Houston
Trevin: "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins

Terisa looks shocked when Cee Lo chooses this matchup and even brings a tear to her eye. She is one of Cee Lo's steals, so they have done well so far. Trevin picked this song and dedicating this to the teacher in middle school who thought he couldn't make it. Terisa works the hell out of her Whitney song and has some strong pipes on her. What Trevin can do with his voice is amazing. Trevin breaks down at the end and brings Cee Lo to tears. This is so hard and I want them both to move on. Cee Lo thinks it is the grace of God in Trevin's voice and he picks him for the live shows.

Team Cee Lo: Mycle Wastman vs. Nicholas David
Mycle: "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" by Elton John
Nicholas: "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae

They both have soulful voices and he wants to see who can do it on the live shows. This is a round that I am not crazy about. They have good voices, but they are both singers I am not crazy about. They both do decent jobs and sound good, but I guess I would pick Nicholas. Cee Lo is trying to look at it from an executive producer point of view and not as a coach and he decides to pick Nicholas for the live shows.

Team Cee Lo: Caitlin Michele vs. Diego Val
Caitlin: "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence
Diego: "Are You Going To Go My Way" by Lenny Kravitz

The final battle for Team Cee Lo and he wants to see who can get lost in the song and take over the stage. Caitlin is Cee Lo's other steal, so will she continue on her journey. Caitlin has a strong voice and does a great job with her song. I don't get the love for Diego, but he has made it this far. He does a good job with his song, but I'm leaning towards Caitlin. Cee Lo liked the both, but thinks there is something special about Diego and he picks him.

Team Cee Lo for the live shows: Cody Belew, MacKenzie Bourg, Trevin Hunte, Nicholas David and Diego Val (all guys for Cee Lo). Tomorrow night it will be Team Christina and Team Blake!
