The designers are going green tonight on Project Runway All Stars, as they take on looks for the red carpet, but all made from eco-friendly fabrics and material. Eight designers remain, but the pressures of this challenge might send someone home we least expect!
The designers head to New York's High Line Park to meet Carolyn Murphy. She is joined by Joshua David and Robert Hammond, co-founders of Friends of the High Line. They tell the designers the next challenge, which is to design a red carpet look using only green, eco-friendly fabrics and materials! The designers get to each pick a fabric before even making any kind of sketch.
It is announced that Diane von Furstenberg will be the guest judge this week, so the designers all go crazy. Carolyn announces she will wear the winning design at her next red carpet event. The designers head out for 30 minutes of sketching. Ivy said she wants to do a lot of draping, which is not normal for her. Uli is inspired by bright colors this week. They get back to the workroom and run to get their hands on the limited trimmings and material.
Laura Kathleen says that Emilio is a costume designer and there is a difference between costume and fashion, yet he is winning the challenges every week and you are in the bottom? Uli said it is time for an Uli Explosion, so it is all about embellishing it and adding feathers and buttons and anything she can find! On Ivy's original season she was eliminated for not completing her design for a red carpet challenge and she is hoping she doesn't repeat herself!
Joanna Coles comes in for her critique. She tells Emilio the color is a great color for the red carpet and he thinks he will win this challenge. She also loves the color of Anthony Ryan's material. She thinks Althea's material will be very dreary on the red carpet and she is swimming in the middle. Again she tells Joshua his look could be fabulous or hideous. Joanna tells Ivy she has a clear vision of what she wants to do and has a great fabric. Joanna tells Uli it is very similar to last week.
Ivy is behind and Anthony Ryan said she needs to get to cutting because she has no dress. The models come in for their fitting and Ivy has nothing to put her model in and she is freaking out. Another dress not completed for the red carpet for her? Emilio has a lot of work to do after the fitting. The night has come to an end and the designers head back to the hotel and they share their celebrities who have worn their looks on the red carpet...bragging much?
The next day arrives and they have two hours until the runway! Everyone is scrambling around and no one seems to be close to being done. Emilio's dress is cut on the floor and still needs to be put together. Ivy thinks her dress is a mess and she is a hot mess herself right now.
Laura Kathleen is a huge Diane von Furstenberg fan, so she is trying to make it work for this challenge. Anthony Ryan's dress is a little long and his model keeps tripping over it. Ivy said it would be a miracle if she gets this dress finished. Emilio is unable to do a lot of things to his dress and he is upset with himself.
It is runway time, so Carolyn Murphy joins the designers on the runway. The judges tonight are Carolyn, Georgina Chapman, Isaac Mizrahi and guest judge is of course Diane von Furstenberg. The designs I liked tonight: Joshua (love the material and look of the dress), Casanova (not a fan of the material, but the design is great), Anthony Ryan (simple, but it is very cute) and Emilio (may not have completed it right, but I like it). The designs I did not like: Uli (too many feathers and not a red carpet look), Althea (looks plain and not something you would see on a red carpet) and Ivy (it looks thrown together and I am not a fan) and Laura Kathleen (she did pants).
Carolyn then asks Joshua and Casanova to step forward and they are both safe this week. The other designers have the high and low scores this week. For Anthony Ryan, Diane said she likes it a lot and cool and elegant. Carolyn said she loves the color and she could see herself wearing this dress. Georgina said she loves the whole feel of it. For Ivy, Isaac said this is the worst that fabric has looked. Carolyn said it is definitely not something I would wear. Georgina said this feels so heavy. For Emilio, Diane said the lining was a problem and the dress is missed.
For Uli, Isaac said he really likes this dress and it looks great. Diane told her to not not use feather and she manipulated them well. Georgina said the back feels unfinished. For Althea, Carolyn said the back makes no sense to her. Georgina said she can see the battle she had with this fabric. Isaac said she needed to go for something and she kind of stopped herself. For Laura Kathleen, Diane said it is really well done. Isaac said he has to applaud her for making that fabric so fresh. Georgina said she is getting a triangular affect and no woman wants that.
The judges discuss the six designs and I think it will be Anthony Ryan winning it all tonight and I think we will be saying goodbye to Althea, who has been quiet all season and was shown a little bit more tonight. The designers come back to the runway and Anthony Ryan is safe, so it is down to Uli and Laura Kathleen. The winner tonight is Laura Kathleen (ugh). Uli and Emilio are safe and it is down to Ivy and Althea. Ivy is in and survives a red carpet challenge and Althea is headed home tonight. Do you agree?
