21 days would be the end of a normal Naked and Afraid journey but it's a new chapter for the survivalists during this 40 day challenge. Piranha Lake is home to electric eels that can carry up to 600 volts. There's also venomous snakes, cayman and obviously piranhas.
El Bosque: EJ, Alana, Jeff, Shane, Danielle - EJ and Jeff are stopped in El Bosque when they come upon Shane. Once Shane invites himself to their trek to Piranha Lake 7 miles away (4 miles from their extraction point), they are curious about the drama between Shane and Danielle and Alana. They're hoping it will have enough food and water to sustain them for the rest of the challenge. EJ doesn't want to turn his back on Shane and invites him to Piranha Lake. Danielle and Alana want to stay in El Bosque because of the fruit and nut supply is perfect for their vegetarian diet.
On their way to Piranha Lake they will travel 7 miles across the savannah for where the temp can rise to over 110 degrees. They will have no safety from the sun other than the mud and self-made leaf hats. 3 miles from their location they start to really feel the heat and pain and they have only 4 cups of water for the trek. Once at their location EJ and Shane tear up over the exhausting and emotional hike. Now their most important thing is protein. But a fight with an electric eel means voltage through Jeff's body. And then EJ's body when he tried to use the machete. And then again through Jeff. Shane offers help saying since he's been an electrician he's used to shocks, but he severs the eel's spine and they all get electrocuted again. That'll energize you as well as making the trek worth it. At the end of their prayer before they chow down, the Cano Verde camp comes up on the feast. Total bullshit to have to share that massive eel with people who haven't worked for it. "There's a whole freakin clan of them!" EJ has the right attitude regarding sharing... they may need to ask something from the Cano Verde clan in the future. After this gesture, there needs to be new rules and structure. Be responsible for your own food.
That night a cat approaches the camp looking for the eel waking the trio up. Howls all around!
XLR: 8.5 for the three males. Danielle and Alana raise their XLR to 6.0.
Cano Verde: Dani, Chris, Eva, Luke, Laura - The girls have joined Chris and Luke and everyone is nervous about splitting the bounty 5 ways. After the 24 hour probation period everything is running smoothly so everyone is happy with the setup. They haven't had protein in 3 weeks, making movement difficult. Luckily the girls brought the mosquito net which also works as a fish net. But with resources dwindling they may need to make a move to a new location. A diet based almost entirely on unripe mangoes means burning mouths due to the acidity but at least it has sugar. With the supply dwindling they dry out the remaining mangoes for their journey 6 miles across the savannah to Piranha Lake.
Before they leave camp Laura gets several bee stings over her entire body causing more lethargy. One must question why they don't travel before dawn to avoid the heat. Instead of worrying about the heat they are most worried about the anacondas that could possibly hide in the grass. Another question is the lack of clothing and shoes. Especially since you know you're walking on lava rocks.
XLR: Too many mouths to feed means the score falls to 7.5.
