24 days in and Shane is worse for the wear. All survivalists are at Piranha Lake but they're not necessarily "together".
Piranha Lake: Shane, EJ and Jeff - After being awoken during the night by a cat, they trio find the paw prints and finally realize the hunters can become the hunted. They are four miles from extraction but are boxed in by jagged volcanic rock and dense jungle. Over the last three weeks Shane has burned so many calories doing so many things he has become very weak. Drinking water is in short supply so rehydrating is a slow process. The eel protein that the group shared hasn't done much for Shane and he is fading fast. He has already lost 12 pounds and a lot of muscle mass. Along with dehydration Shane's organs may be shutting down. He decides to dig a well and volunteers to become the guinea pig (since he's the weakest) for testing it without boiling. If it's clean and healthy there's an endless amount of water. If it's not clean it could contain parasite that could cause serious illness. "We are a stronger team with Shane," says Jeff. After 24 hours Shane feels fine, so Jeff and EJ take a guzzle. While watching the larger group fish, but not catch, Jeff uses his fishing line and catches their protein for the night in fish AND eel form. Will he share it with the other group? He feels like asking God for the food and being blessed, he should "do the right thing". EJ brings shane more meat but Shane's body isn't processing the protein and water. Knowing that his body isn't recovering, he meets with his team and tells them he's tapping out with a very heartfelt speech. Friends forever. 31 days is nothing to be ashamed of. After his departure Jeff and EJ join the larger group... and then there were nine.
Piranha Lake: Eva, Laura, Danielle, Luke and Chris - They are only 20 yards from the guys but they're not camping together at this point. The guys show the group around, trying to get a feel on wether they will form one large group. During their exploration they find two eels, to which Jeff exclaims that they must catch their own. Generating 600 volt shocks, if anyone gets several shocks they could go into respiratory arrest and heart failure. Luke gets a nice shock and the eel escapes. Never fear, the snake meal is here... popping straight out of the ground as the group sits by the night fire.
El Bosque: Dani and Alana - The ladies are leaving their fruit-rich camp to get closer to their extraction point. They decide leaving pre-dawn is their best bet (smart not to hike in the hot sun). Excited to meet new survivalists, Danielle is most concerned about maintaining her vegetarianism. Danielle's plan to is to have a large group where members rotate chores. Shane isn't feeling it.
One Group: The general consensus is that the more the merrier. Jeff comes in very assertively explaining that separation is working best for them to this point. The largest group becomes Dani, Alana, Danielle, Laura, Eva, Luke and Chris. Using the mosquito net, they are desperate for fish. Instead they work on getting a snake out of a tree. When that doesn't work out and Jeff shares his eel, Dani is barely hanging on by sticking to her sparse fruits and veggies. While walking along the lagoon her and Alana find Shane half out of the water lying down. Instead of running to his aid they talk about the mistakes he's made.
